About Jen, Owner

I’ll never forget the day I had to board my two cats in order to attend a week-long work conference. Although my cats were normally calm and relaxed at home, the boarding experience was extremely stressful for them. That wasn’t the fault of the boarding facility at all—they were wonderful; it’s just that most cats do not like change and unfamiliar environments at all!

I’d like to eliminate that same worry and stress for my clients by lovingly caring for all of your small pets so that you can go on that vacation or work conference and actually enjoy the moment! Though cats are my primary specialty (I have five of them! All rescues!), I am just as thrilled to help with your fish, bird, hamster, rabbit, or exotics. I do not work with large dog breeds at the moment, but if you have a small dog, we can discuss if my services may work for you.

How I Work

I’m a small operation (hence the business name “Small Things”) and I work a tight geographic area around Canton, Woodstock, Ball Ground, and Milton. But don’t assume you’re in or out of my area. Just give me your address, and I’ll map it!

I like to keep things small, simple, and streamlined, so just know that 1) you’ll be interacting with only me and 2) it won’t be hard! Promise! What that means is no clunky apps or scheduling tools to download, no dealing with third parties, just direct, efficient, person-to-person communication.

How easy is it?

At our initial client meeting or “meet and greet,” I’ll come out to your home and get to know you and your pet. I’ll ask for some basic information as well as typical pet behaviors and feeding schedules.

Next, we’ll discuss details such as entry to your home and how you’d like to handle key exchange (see FAQs for more information). There are two simple and safe ways to handle key exchange, so I encourage you to pick one of the two methods that I recommend.

At the conclusion of the meet-and-greet, we’ll discuss the amount of time required per visit and the number of visits needed. To keep things simple for you, I do not charge per pet or different rates per pet type; instead, I charge based on session time, starting in 30-minute increments. The larger the number of pets, the longer the session or number of visits that will be needed.

Once you’re off enjoying your time away, I update you once per day via text message or email with information on how your pet is doing. There are no clunky apps for you to download in order to see your pet’s updates and there is no login and password that you’ll ever have to remember.

I accept a variety of payment methods including Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, personal check, and cash. All payment is taken care of up front, so you won’t come home to an invoice to deal with.

And just so you can rest even easier, know that I’m fully insured. Though we hope no situation arises where this is ever truly needed, proper business insurance sets a truly professional pet sitter apart from a more informal setup, such as a neighbor or family member checking in on your pet.
